If you are are a solitary Wiccan, Witch or are simply interested in exploring possibilities, it can be difficult to find a ‘teacher’, mentor or coven that will both meet your needs and accept you into their family. In this article I will list two fantastic resources for practitioners of the tradition who live or are visiting Australia and would like to make contact with like minded resources and people. In this article I will list two fantastic resources for practitioners of the tradition who live or are visiting Australia and would like to make contact with like minded resources and people.

Recently I had the sheer privilege of paying a visit to the Witches House in Melbourne Australia. I was there for a course and had the opportunity to sit with Danae the founder of Spell Box Spellbox - Retail outlet and the Witches Housewhich runs both a retail outlet (offering Wiccan Supplies*, spells and readings) in the Block Arcade and the Witches House in Little Bourke Street. The “Witches House” is dedicated to herb and potion dispensing, Tarot readings and a School of Magick that hosts classes/courses like the one I attended.

Upon entering the establishment you are greeted by warm, smiling face and directed to your requested service (in my case a pre booked class). The atmosphere is light yet warm, a middle aged gentleman was making a custom incense for a client, lightly chatting on the differences between this one and the last he provided and the beneficial details. Browsing the inner sanctum of this very special place, there were books in a book case unclear if they were for sale or not, wood carved owls, glass jars of herbs, oils and prepared potions – the aesthetics were not of a “store” rather a living space.

The most wonderful aspect that I left with is that Danae is and has surrounded herself with warm, vibratory, knowledgeable people. The course I attended felt sadly like minutes not the two hours I was there, she attracts clients that are wonderfully warm people. I left more informed, guided and ready to attend to the areas of my practice that I went to explore.

The second resource I wished to inform you SPELLCRAFT Magazineof is not a place – it’s a magazine and can be purchased internationally. The magazine is called “the spirit guide to Spellcraft” or just – Spellcraft. It is the first periodical publication that caters for Wiccan’s and Witches in the Southern Hemisphere (Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific islands, South East Asia, Southern African nations, and South America.

Articles are written by it’s founders and have contributions from published authors (Witches) of Wiccan books. To give you an example of the home state of this periodical, the last issue was dedicated to the Home and Hearth – the importance of the house and home in the Wiccan faith. It explored house/home protection spells, the recent discovery’s of Old English Magick in period buildings in Australia, the library of a Witch/Wiccan and importantly male witch articles on the Tradition of the Sun.

Spellcraft is a seasonal publication (4 per year) announcing local Sabbat celebrations and congregations with seasonally topical articles as well as the a season theme, a periodical I highly recommend.

It is fantastic to see that in Australia, as with our brothers and sisters in the Northern Hemisphere, the tradition is gaining acceptance and is now serviced by quality resources. Should you be visiting Australia, I highly recommend visiting Spell Box or picking up a copy of Spellcraft – to stay in touch with the faith and make touch with the community.

* Spell Box does not provide their Wiccan Supplies over the internet nor sell internationally.
