The owl has specific and significant meanings for me personally as well as the widely known symbolic representations and associations with Wisdom, The Goddess (inc Athena & Lakshmi) and Death in some cultures.
I happen to wear a pentacle with the owl, my wand has a pewter owl on the base, due to the symbolism; the owl is a reminder for me of the beginning of my journey into Wicca. I have posted the article below from the Witchvox site, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
